Сильное влияние на город оказывает западная культура. С другой стороны, очаровательные извилистые шумящие улицы Шанхая наполнены духом колониального прошлого. Это, конечно, не древний Китайский город со множеством исторических храмов и руин. Это город с молодой душой, больше похожий на Пекин. Улицы Шанхая, заполненные отелями, банками и офисами, скорее пророчат ему богатое будущее, чем напоминают о прошлом. В современный Шанхай приезжают ради трех вещей: осмотра достопримечательностей, деловой встречи и шоппинга. Недаром его часто называют «Восточным Парижем».
