The only luxury hotel in Dubrovnik’s Old Town - a former nobleman’s home has been meticulously restored into an elegant boutique hotel. THE PUCIC PALACE - AT A GLANCE Aristocrats originally filled the halls behind the honey-colored walls of this splendid building. After 300 years, the Pucic Palace doors have swung open to guests who also prefer a touch of grandeur in their lodgings. Located on Dubrovnik’s atmospheric main square, the hotel has been traditionally restored with wooden-beamed ceilings, wrought-iron balustrades and lustrous green marble. Corridors are lined with glass cases displaying antiquities, walls are hung with valuable artworks on loan from city museums, and each of the 19 rooms is named after a famous Croatian poet, musician or artist. If it’s all sounding a bit too much like an over-stuffed cultural excursion with Great-Aunt Matilda, don’t fret... there are Bulgari toiletries in the bathrooms, CD/DVD players in the bedrooms and not a stitch of pretentiousness in the staff. The Pucic Palace is comfortably modern and yet conveniently located on the doorstep of Dubrovnik’s tremendous history. With just 19 bedrooms and suites, the Pucic Palace is the first luxury boutique hotel in Dubrovnik and the first hotel of any kind in the Old Town, a World Heritage Site of pretty squares and narrow streets that have been the subject of a major UNESCO-sponsored restoration program. The Old Town is known for its beautiful Renaissance palaces and Pucic, with its lovely stone facade right on Gundulic Square, is a fine example. Once a stately home, it was completely renovated by Amsterdam-based Sagrada Hotels International and now has Italian-mosaic bathrooms with huge windows, freestanding copper-encased baths, polished olivewood parquet floors and high ceilings, and is furnished with antiques and original artworks. One masterstroke has been the creation of a Parisian-style cafe, The Cafe Royal, with tables out on Gundulic Square, providing a people-watching spot in one of the Old Town’s prime locations. In addition, the hotel has an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant (Defne) and a wine bar (Razonoda), which has an outstanding cellar and serves cocktails and snacks. If you are in Dubrovnik on business, the hotel supplies fully stocked ’business carts’ (laptops are also available), although guests are more likely to be tempted by the hotel’s private yacht that is available for trips up the coast. Once one of the finest noble homes, the Pucic Palace was a favorite residence for important visitors to Dubrovnik and presents a dramatic and memorable impression of Renaissance splendor. Located in the heart of the Old Town, this imperial hotel has a warm, intimate atmosphere echoing the surrounding abundant social character. Elegant rooms with fine furnishings, superior standards of service and modern conveniences ensure that the highest expectations are met.
