Originally a villa dating to the 1800s- the Liberty style building became a hotel around 1860- making it one of the oldest hotels in Naples. The hotel is named after Gorge Parker Bidder- a wealthy English marine biologist who arrived in the town in 1886. During a stay at the hotel officials arrived to confiscate the building to pay the owners gambling debts. When Mr. Parker learned what was happening he told them to put the hotel on his bill. Different events marked the Grand Hotel Parkers history- starting from the glamour of the twenties going through the German military occupation first and the American occupation secondly until the decline period of the post-war years.
