Hotel Vinhuset in Naestved which is today a modern hotel from cellar to attic in the middle of the old Zealand market town dates way back to the 1700s. In that time alderman- postmaster and merchant Mathias Hansteen obtained a royal license to trade with wine and French distilled spirits in Naestved. His daughter Maren Hansteen bought the merchants house on the corner of Vinhusgade and continued the wine trade and the house was therefore called Vinhuset. In 1766 she and her husband were authorized by the King to accommodate travellers and this was confirmed in 1778 when Hotel Vinhuset obtained an actual royal license. The buildings in which the hotel is situated today were erected in three phases in the last part of the 1800s. Although the hotel was thoroughly renovated in 2006 you still feel the presence of history and you can rejoice in the successful combination of old and new. In the cellar they serve exquisite food at popular prices. For people with a sweet taste it is good to know that the desserts on the menu card comprise Mums red fruit jelly with cream and old-fashioned ecological lemon mousse. Naestved is a pleasant acquaintance. The hotel is so wisely situated that on the one side you have the cosy cobblestoned streets with the many specialised shops and on the other side the river Susaaen which slips peacefully by and the woods Herlufsholm Skov inviting to lovely walks between the beech trees.
