Over 40 years ago the Drachen Hotel opened its doors in the first shopping centre in Basel. Even then, Drachen was considered one of the most modern houses. During the previous decades renovations have taken place with the last renovations in 2001 and 2002. All 43 rooms and junior suites have recently been covered with wall-paintings from a group of 14 Spanish artists under the motto Wonders of the modern and ancient world. The scenes move through Europe from Paris to Venice over to Mexico, over to the Taj Mahal, China to Alexandria. On the technical side of things the Hotel Drachen has also moved with the times. Each room is fitted with cable-television on a 70 cm flat screen, has ISDN telephones, internet connections plus safe box and minibar. Each room has either a shower or a bath with toilette. The furniture has been specially designed for each room in maple wood. Due to the wall-paintings our Hotel is now an open-secret amongst visitors interested in art and architecture. When asked, our business guests admit how easy it is to close the doors on the daily business stress and relax in our comfortable rooms. But not only does Hotel Drachen offer you culture, so does the town Basel itself. In fact, with more than 50 museums (many of international renown), Basel boosts the most dense gathering in Europe.
