The area surrounding area of Lake Ploen offers a range of exciting cultural experiences. Visitors are spirited back to days gone by: the holiday resort of Ascheberg was first mentioned in official documentation 800 years ago. The Sventana Langenrader Mill, which was built in 1859 is today a cultural heritage site, popular for day trips. The silhouette of the climatic spa town of Ploen is heavily influenced by the Schloss mansion of the same name. The grounds of Ploen Schloss, with their old wooded areas, are the perfect place for a relaxing stroll. In the former stables of the Schloss there is now an information centre about Hosteinas Little Switzerland region. The so-called apearl of the Rococoa is the Prinzenhaus, which is also to be found on the grounds of Ploen Schloss. Here the sons of the last German Kaiser, Wilhelm II received their education. St. Nicholas Church on the market square and the romantic St. Johnas Church are also worth a visit. Discover the local art of glassmaking and other exhibits at Ploenas district museum! The climatic spa town of Ploen, in Schleswig-Holstein, attracts a large number of tourists each year. Regular events include the popular jazz concert. For several days the town enjoys a real feel-good atmosphere, thanks to a programme of top bands on numerous stages. In the summer Ploen celebrates its wine festival. The market square is transformed into a huge wine shop and guests can see out the day at a selection of convivial gatherings. In the summer months, the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival entertains the crowds. There are also regular classical concerts held at St. Nicholas Church. Thereas plenty to keep younger visitors occupied too: In the summer the city of Ploen runs an open air theatre, where actors in childrenas plays are rewarded with wonder and enthusiasm, and a trip on a pirate ship is swashbuckling fun!
