The complete renovation and remodeling of the former Hotel Pombo resulted in The Hostal CasAntica. Ing. Sergio A. Bello Guerra and his wife Lic. Maria Eugenia Pombo Calvo took this project in hand. Sergio was in charge of the architectural part and his wife took care of the design, the decoration and the details of the Hotel, the halls, the arches, the walls, the ceilings and the interior of the rooms. The hotel consists of 2 interconnecting buildings. One has a large terrace on the 2nd floor. Here you can sit back and relax, drink a cup of coffee or get a perfect suntan. All of this while enjoying the big 200-year old Cantera wall. On the third floor of this building, you have the most astonishing view of the Oaxacan churches, even more beautiful at night. The other one has a small patio with a beautiful fountain. Around the patios the former nun rooms have been remodeled to 20 Superior rooms, safeguarding the colonial design from those times. On the North wall, we have 3 floors with 26 standard rooms, designed in the old, rustic Oaxacan Colonial style. The other side of the building is 200 years old and used to be a convent, that of the Santa Lucia Nuns. The style of the building reflects the architectural style of that age as well as the typical looks of a convent. The inner patio has a heated swimming pool and a beautiful stone fountain right by the Cantera wall. While respecting the rules for the Historical Conservation, we tried to implement all modern comfort such as double window doors to avoid noises into the room, cooler fan, Cable TV, digital telephone and Internet jacks. If you wish your stay to be more comfortable, we offer you our Jr. Suites with more space which stands for more comfort. Our Master Suites have two floors each and our Presidential Suite has all the commodities and luxury for a room of this class. It has an impressive view of the Carmen Bajo Church. The Arco de San Miguel Restaurante used to be the church of the convent. It has the original Arch, which has been restored as well as the painting of the Saint Michael the Archangel, which remains in its original position. They serve the best coffee in town. Come and enjoy a glass of wine in this very nice and quiet atmosphere. The original architectural structure of the exterior of the hotel has been preserved. Looking at the building, you can feel the strength and the strong structure yet you also feel the ambience and the memories of long gone times when these walls were originally built. When visiting the hotel or the Restaurante, you will feel like stepping back in time: you can see the Santa Lucia's nuns walk through the halls praying and singing their religious songs, surrounded by all the antiques that you find throughout the hotel in the many niches in the halls and rooms. Now, you will feel so peaceful and relaxed that you would not want to ever leave from the patios or the rooms and get back to your daily routine. In addition, our rates are very reasonable. Our main goal is to keep our guests happy and we want them to come back in the future. Besides our old history and the impressive building it is the owners' personal attention and their intention to try and please as much as possible, which makes this hotel the best choice for your stay in Oaxaca.
