The Chelsea is a privately owned hotel in the centre of Cologne and closely connected with international contemporary art. The extraordinary roof in deconstructive architectural style is an unique experience for the hotel guests. Inseparable from the Chelsea hotel - not only in proximity but in spirit and history - is the Cafe Central with the adjacent little bistro restaurant o.T., which also serves in the morning as breakfast room for the hotel guests. It was here during the Eighties and Nineties that under the artistic direction of Martin Kippenberger legendary parties took place. Not only visual artists like this cafe, it has been from the outset a centre of intellectual discussions with literary lectures and the Philosophie im Central-series. The outside terrace with palms, banana and bamboo plants with its Mediterranean flair attracts in the summer, which in Cologne sometimes starts as early as February, hotel guests and locals alike. The Cafe Central is an integral part of the hotel, but since 2004 managed by another staff. The new tenant has brought a lot of new ideas, fresh faces and an excellent cuisine.

Exhibitions in many galleries in the Belgian Quarter are within walking distance. There are also many concerts in the RheinEnergieStadion, which can be reached via tram. For guests interested in sports activities there are indoor swimming pools nearby as well as the Aachener Weiher and park areas, which are ideal for jogging. Besides it is always worthwile to visit the museums in Cologne such as Museum Ludwig, Museum for East Asian Art, Chocolate Museum.
