Grand Hotel San Michele

An enchanting villa facing the Thyrrhenian Sea. today it is a family-run hotel with many facilities and an excellent service. It is surrounded by an enormous estate (1600 acres) that provides the hotel with fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese, wine and oil organically grown and produced. The hotel also boasts a new conference center, a golf course (9 holes, par 70) and beautiful private beaches nested under a cliff reached by a lift. An ideal place for bird watching and painting. --- The Grand Hotel San Michele is located on a 120 meter high cliff overlooking the Mediterranean: on a clear day you can see the Eolian Islands and the Etna Volcano in Sicily. It has its private beach of sand and pebbles, tiny coves divided by dramatic rock outcrops. There are two restaurants and a breakfast room inside the hotel, but with nice weather you will have breakfast and dinner on two beautiful terraces overlooking the sea. Candlelight dinner with soft live music is a very romantic moment of the day. Large terraces to enjoy the sun and relax are available everywhere in San Michele: the bar terrace with a breathtaking view on the coastline and the harbor of Cetraro, where you can taste the extraordinary cocktails of our barman or enjoy life music and dancing in the evening; the large swimming pool terrace, with its own bar, is dominated by two large oaks and rocks covered by various specimens of the Mediterranean flora, mirroring in the pool. Flowers are the keynote in San Michele: inside nice fresh flowers arrangements everywhere; outside bougainvilleas blossoming through the whole year, jasmines, orange trees that by the end of April are nearly intoxicating with their strong perfume! And of course so many others in a wild mixture of colors and shapes. You can enjoy walks in the farm or in the woods surrounding the hotel where you will meet a lot of birds and some wild animals, like foxes and boars. The best place for bird watching is on the cliff: from the fifteenth century watchtower you can see pilgrim falcons, different types of hawks; during migration periods you can see a lot of uncommon birds coming or going to Africa from Northern Europe. The golf course, nicely landscaped among wine yards, is quite challenging but in return it will give you the chance to pick up fruits directly from the trees and to find some beautiful mushrooms. The beach is reached by a 92 m high private lift that takes you almost to sea level; at the beach you can find a bar and, during the summer, a restaurant with own kitchen. On the beach there are deck chairs, umbrella, boats. Divers are available to take you in the deep and show you the underwater beauty of this part of the Mediterranean.
