You will find many of the citys historical sites in Center Citys Museum District along the Ben Franklin Parkway. The Philadelphia Art Museum is one of the largest art museums in the United States with ten different curatorial departments. The Rodin Museum is just down the block on Ben Franklin Parkway and houses the largest collection of works by sculptor Auguste Rodin outside of Paris. Included are some of Rodins most famous bronze casts, such as the Gates of Hell and the Thinker. The Mummers Museum is dedicated to Philadelphias New Years celebration and holds outdoor concerts May - September. Philadelphia is also home to the unique Mi??tter Museum, established in 1787 to provide medical professionals and the public an opportunity to learn about medicine through science and art. If youre looking for history, the interactive Constitution Center joins the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall as historic must-sees. The Franklin Institute science museum offers resources for learning about science and pays homage to Ben Franklin.
Other must-see neighborhoods in Center City include the Avenue of the Arts, Fitler Square, Jewelers Row, Logan Circle, Market East, Old City, Penns Landing, the Rittenhouse Square, Society Hill, and Washington Square West. The South Street Head House District has a wide variety of stores to shop in, and Chinatown has some of the most authentic Chinese cuisine and culture youll find anywhere. Or if youd prefer a Philly cheese steak sandwich, you can find the most traditional local fare at Pats, Genos and Jims. And if its baseball season, make sure to catch a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia is also home to one of the largest city parks in the world, Fairmont Park.
