The hospitability both of the family owner and of all of their employees during the last 50 years made clients become regular guests or even friends. It is especially due to the strenous activities of Mr. Horst Fusshoeller, the senior boss, that since 1955 international guests could not only celebrate but henceforth could spend the night in one of the first motels in the Rhine region. During five decades long-range investments were continually made in order to turn the motel competitive and to guarantee almost comfort for the clients. Leisure Activities in Boppard Activities: Wine tasting Nestled in the biggest loop-bend of the River Rhine, Boppards wines grow on a Rhenish slate soil. The soil gives the grapes their fragrance, aroma, strength, and its fruity tang. Spice and special micro-climate and the sun add sweetness to the grape. Since Roman times - 2000 years ago - wine has been grown in this region. In the middle ages vineyards have been cultivated in Boppard. Today, on approx. 70 hectare, Bopparder Hamm is grown, and family-owned wineries produce and market the Boppard wine. Organized wine tasting every Thursday 8.00 p.m. from April - October at family owned wineries. Price: EURO 5,- per person for 5 different wines. Chairlift: One of the highlights is a chairlift ride to the Vierseenblick, the view of the four lakes. It takes 20 minutes to the hilltops overlooking a spectacular view of the great winding River Rhine. Hunsrueck Mountain Railway: A train ride with the Hunsrueck Railway between Boppard and Buchholz is regarded as one of the most charming stretches of mountain railways in Germany. The train runs over 2 viaducts and passes through five tunnels, climbs, within a distance of 8 km on its route to Buchholz, a height of more than 330 metres. For hikers, footpaths No. 23, 25, 19 or 26 leading back down to town take 1-2 hours. The one way ride takes to : Buchholz: 15 Min. Fleckertshoehe: 20 Min. Emmelshausen: 30 Min. Rhine-Express: The mini-train offers a 30 minutes tour around the town, past the remains of Boppards fortifying walls dating back to the Romans and the Middle Ages, past the Romanesque and Gothic Parish Church of St. Severus and the Carmelite Church, and many other historic places of interest. Departure places: Market Square, Rheinallee or Chairlift. Prior booking needed for groups. -in operation: Apr-Oct. Guided tour through Boppard: A guided tour will bring alive Boppards past history, Roman and medieval remains, narrow alleyways and halftimbered houses. Tours in English take place in High Season, Tuesdays at 3 p.m. Boat trips: An extensive programme offering round trips and day excursions on pleasure boats and steamers. During summer months regular evening river trips with music. The Rhine steamers operate from April till October. Golf: Golfhotel Jakobsberg, 10 km from Boppard, 18-holes-golf-course. Leisure Activities in the area: Neuwied Zoo Garden of Butterflies Siegfrieds Mechanical Music Museum Castles: Marksburg: Is the only undestroyed castle along the Middle Rhine. 12th to 14th Century. Worth seeing: Armour, torture equipment, weapons. Rheinfels: Founded in 1245, the medieval ruins and tunnels of the fortress provide an impressive glimpse into the defensive structures of this castle. Stolzenfels: Built as a summer residence for Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia in 1825-45. Display of medieval armour and weapons. Pfalzgrafenstein: A picturesque castle on a small rock in the middle of the River Rhine near Kaub. Burg Sonneck: near Niederheimbach, built in 11th century, twice destroyed -1253 and 1282. Collection of antique furniture, armour and weapons. Falconry: At the Burg Maus, Flight demonstrations: April - beginning of October daily: at 11 a.m., 2.30 p.m. Indoor pools: Swimming pool: Outdoor/Indoor swimming pool, 2 km from town in Boppard-Buchenau. Bus service from the railway station. Starting in May till September the outdoor pool is open daily from 10 a.m. till 7.30 p.m. Indoor pool is open from September till May. Miniature-golf-course Adventure Pool Tauris Sights: Museum The towns museum is housed in part of the Electors Castle built in 14th cent.: Pre- and early history, and sacral art are exhibited in the tower. Thonet Bentwood Furniture are exhibited in honour of one of Boppards sons, Michael Thonet, the inventor of the Bentwood Technique. Also an exhibition on Philipp F. von Siebold, a Researcher in Japan.
