The Macdonald Burford Bridge nestles at the foot of National Trust's Box Hill and alongside the River Mole, an area of natural beauty. The Hotel dates back to the 16th Century and is steeped in history. One Tithe Barn with its high vaulted ceiling is very popular for weddings, conferences and parties. The beams, it is said, were taken from the ships of the Spanish Armada. Lord Nelson, it is claimed, had his final meeting with Lady Hamilton at the Burford Bridge before he joined the fleet to meet his fate at the Battle of Trafalgar. In fact it has provided sanctuary for many visitors including Queen Victoria, Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Dickens and John Keats, who finished his great poem 'Endymion' here in 1817.
