It passed through the hands of various members of the same family for over 200 years. Its previous owners included Thomas Gwillim who was ADC to General Wolfe at the battle of Quebec and John Graves Simcoe who was the 1st Govenor General of Upper Canada and founder of the City of Toronto. You can even see a statue of him in Toronto if you visit there.
