In the delightful setting of Trabia, small, lovely fishing harbour situated on the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily, between Palermo and Cefalu, stands the Hotel Tonnara Trabia, housed in a carefully restored sixteenth-century tunny processing plant. Situated in a magnificent position, directly by the sea, close to the fascinating touristic moorings of S. Nicola L'Arena - equipped to cope with pleasure craft the hotel is surrounded by a well-tended lawn; modern and practical. It offers 114 rooms, almost all with a sea view, elegantly furnished and provided with every convenience: air-conditioning, minibar, color satellite TV and telephone. Various facilities are available to guests: two restaurants, the 'Rais' and the 'Rosa dei Venti', a welcoming bar, 'La Lampara', piano bar, reception, congress, meeting and exhibition halls, all fitted with sophisticated equipment, 24-hour door service, safe, lift, open-air swimming pool, covered heated swimming pool with hydromassage, sun terrace, garden, well-equipped beach, church auditorium and open-air museum. The place, enjoying a mild climate throughout the year, is set amid the inebriating scent of orange blossom and medlars, preserves the lovely sixteenth-century castle of the Lanza princes as testimony to its illustrious past, together with the tunny plant of the same date, which carefully restructured and restored, respecting the original architectonic characteristics of the complex by using such materials as tufaceous stone and limestone, nowadays houses the hotel. Objects, tools and equipment, from the bygone tunny activity are gathered in the old premises, in a sort of open-air museum, which hotel guests are free to visit.
