 Трудно поверить, что территория Вашингтона, с его величественными зданиями и парками, некогда была всего лишь болотом. Именно здесь была основана столица США, названная в честь первого президента страны. Город построен по плану архитектора Пьера-Шарля Л'Энфана, который задумал наполнить его Европейским стилем. Поэтому здесь так много зеленых парков и так мало небоскребов. Вашингтон изначально строился как столица, что и определило его облик: величественные здания Капитолия и Белого Дома, выразительные Мемориалы Авраама Линкольна и Томаса Джефферсона... Туристическая индустрия также играет немаловажную роль - ежегодно сюда приезжают до 18 тысяч посетителей. Многие отели Вашингтона наполнены духом истории и величия, но и здесь можно найти недорогие номера.
