 Веллингтон - столица Новой Зеландии с 1865 года. Свое имя Веллингтон получил в честь Артура Веллислея, первого Герцога Веллингтона и победителя сражения Ватерлоо. Веллингтон - небольшой город, но при этом насыщен достопримечательностями, ресторанами, кафе, отелями, парками, красивыми улочками. Город называют своим домом национальный симфонический оркестр Новой Зеландии, королевская балетная трупа страны, национальная библиотека. Туристы съезжаются сюда на ежегодный двухлетний Международный Фестиваль Искусств, ежегодный Международный Джазовый Фестиваль, Новозеландский фестиваль Края и т.д. В городе в основном проживают европейцы, азиатские народы и коренное население Полинезии. В Веллингтоне прекрасные пейзажи, живописные холмы, гавань, зелёные склоны. Именно здесь снимали знаменитый фильм "Властелин Колец", все пейзажи и панорамные виды фильма - не анимация, а съёмки природы Веллингтона.
