Statue of Schiere Monnik
The Wadden island Schiermonnikoog has had a lot of owners and quite a lot of history.The first residents of the island were monks. In 1962 a statue (the 'Schiere Monnik') for these monks was revealed on the Willemshof, next to the town hall.

Since 1989, Schiermonnikoog is a national park (incl. dunes, beach, mudflat and polder) which is a special natural region that must be well protected. Nature is there for all of us, so only a few areas of Schiermonnikoog are closed to public acce
