The White House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as well as part of the Belfast Historic District. The man who built the home, James P. White, and the man who designed it, prestigious architect Calvin Ryder, conspired to make the house one of the most dramatic in Maine. Its unique design, which includes graceful symmetry and the ornamentation of an eight-side cupola, places The White House among the top Greek Revival homes in Maine. The White House proudly holds the honor of being one of the most photographed homes on Maines coast. The homes interior is as beautiful as its outside with ornate plaster ceiling medallions, marble fireplaces, intricate moldings and a sweeping stairway. A beautiful park-like triangle of grounds and gardens surround the regal home. The huge copper beach tree, the largest in Maine, shades the terrace. At the tip of the grounds, sits a delicate arched gazebo, built around the mid-1800s. Check-in is at 3 00 PM.
