Hotel Skuldelev Kro is situated in the peninsula Hornsherred between Isefjord and Roskilde Fjord and here you find not only a beautiful nature but also lots of relicts from Danish history. In the Viking Age - Roskilde Fjord was busy water and outside Skuldelev the archaeologists found 5 famous and nearly 900 year-old Viking ships. These ships are now exhibited in Vikingeskibsmuseet in Roskilde. In the church Skibby Kirke you can see the theologian Poul Helgesens chronicle which for centuries was hidden behind the walls and which relates the many changes in Denmark around the time of the Reformation in 1536. Hotel Skuldelev Kro is a wonderful place to ease up. On a quiet evening you can almost hear the Viking ships passing on the fjord. The idyllic nature of the fjord land with the hilly landscapes- the beaches and the woods invites to walks and cycling tours. By car there are lots of exciting sights within reach e.g. the oldest living oak tree in Europe in the woods around the castle Jaegerspris Slot. It is perhaps 2.000 years old and thus it was already a fairly large tree when King Gorm den Gamle ruled in Denmark. The little cosy harbour in Skuldelev and the near-by beach are certainly also worth a visit.
