The authentic little village of Pyrgos is perched on the highest spot on Santorini and is a lovely place to lose yourself in the labyrinth of alleys- where- between two whitewashed houses- your gaze will plunge down to the turquoise waters below. Crossing the threshold of Zannos Melathron is like walking into an irresistible dream. Standing back to back with the rock face- this house used to belong to a local ship owner and is a maze of vaulted rooms and romantic alcoves- with high ceilings and mellow lighting. Head for the outdoor terrace to wine and dine while gazing into the eyes of your loved one or at the blaze of blue all around you. In the evening- the flicker of the flaming torches mingles with the twinkling lights of the town far below. Simply superb.
