On the banks of the Great Fish River- in the Eastern Cape region- the Kwandwe private game reserve is home to an abundance of wild animals- black and white rhinoceros- elephants- lions- buffalo- leopards- springboks- Cape buffalo- impalas and giraffes. The site- which was the scene of many battles between the first Boer settlers and the Xhosa tribes- lends its historic charm to four superb modern and private lodges. The reserve will also delight bird watchers who will be able to observe certain rare and protected species such as the martial Eagle or the Blue Crane. After enjoying a massage in your suite and going on safari in search of the big carnivores- it is also worth making the two-hour journey to visit the beaches of Port-Elizabeth.

How to get:
PLZ-Port Elizabeth Airport 100 Mi NE
From PE Airport turn right to La Roche avenue til you reach Beach Road M4.Turn left continue this road towards North End.Take N2 turn off travel towards Colchester/Grahamstown. Approx13km after Colchester- you come to a large spaghetti junction. Continue straight on the Grahamstown road and across the Bushmans River.Travel past Grahamstown and the Settlers Monument- ignoring the Beaufort Street and R67 Port Alfred turn-offs. A few kilometres past Grahamstown turn left onto the road at the R67 Fort Beaufort. Wind your way through the Ecca Pass for approx 22km- before turn left to a gravel road at the Kwandwe sign.Travel 5km to the Kwandwe gate continue straight for 6km. On the left is Reception area- where check-in and leave car.Transfer to Lodge/Uplands/Ecca- half-an-hours drive as you approach the Lodge you are in a wilderness area where predators and high-profile game roam freely.
