Starting as a lumber town on the shores of Puget Sound and named after Chief Seatlth of the Suquamish tribe in 1851 when the settlers arrived, Seattle is surrounded by mountains and water. Puget Sound, Lake Washington and Lake Union, border the city with spectacular views of the Olympic Mountain Range to the West and the Cascade Mountains to the East with Mt. Rainier, as the crowning glory! Seattle not only offers these panoramic views, but easy access to outdoor activities including skiing, within 50 minutes of the city, water sports, hiking and camping. Ferries transport passengers to and from the neighboring Islands of Vashon and Bainbridge to the city. Across Lake Washington are two floating bridges that connect to the cities of Bellevue and Redmond.

Pioneer Square, Seattle's historic district features some 20 square blocks of Victorian Romanesque architecture, filled with museums, galleries, restaurants and great night life! And no trip would be complete without going on the Underground Tour, where you can still see what is left of the city from the Great Seattle Fire in 1889. Seattle is also home to some great niche museums such as the Experience Music Project, Center for Wooden Boats and the Museum of Flight.
The Seattle Center, home of the 1962 World's Fair is now a 74 acre urban park featuring the Space Needle, Pacific Science Center, and Seattle Opera. It hosts to many of the city's largest events including Bite of Seattle, Folklife Arts Festival, and Bumbershoot (an annual Seattle art's festival with famous musical groups from around the country)!
