Marmadukes is a Fine Small Hotel situated just a short walk from the Minster and the ancient walls of the City of York. We have taken a classic Victorian Gentleman's residence and created a beautifully designed family owned and operated Hotel with an emphasis on comfort and friendliness. All our rooms have sumptuous handcrafted beds with Georgian and early Victorian antique furnishings. Our interior designers have carefully blended the traditional with the contemporary style. Our Relaxation Suite has Hot Tub, Sauna, Plunge Shower, Tanning Booth and Exercise Equipment. We have a lovely bar and Lounge with an open fire, often frequented by our two cats, Bella and Maud. Marmadukes also own one of Yorks most important buildings, the 700 year old Lendal Tower, a Scheduled Historic Monument in the heart of the City. If you're looking for a totally unique venue for your next meeting then you should consider our 700 year old medieval Tower on the banks of the river Ouse in the heart of York. Lendal Tower dates from around 1300 and was built as part of the city's defensive walls and housed a chain that stretched across to the opposite bank of the river, also enabling taxes to be collected by those entering or leaving York by boat. This celebrated medieval site is now a Scheduled Historic Monument and one of Yorks most important buildings. You arrive by an original 1932 Pickering lift to the spectacular surroundings of our oak panelled Board Room sitting at the top of the Tower. At Lunch time we take those with a head for heights out onto the roof for unforgettable views of York and the Minster. From Leeds - via the A64 - Travel East on the A64. Take the A1237 (York North & Thirsk). Continue for 5 miles following sign to Thirsk (A19). At the roundabout that intersects the A19, turn right (signposted YorkCentre A19). Continue for 2 miles. Turn left onto St Peters Grove, opposite St Peters School. From the South M1 and A1 - Travel North on the M1. At junction 32, take the M18 link to A1 North. At junction 2 take the A1 North. Continue until the sign marked York A64. Then follow the directions as shown above. From the East - (Scarborough, Bridlington and Hull) - Follow the A1237 (outer ring road) signposted to Thirsk. At the intersection of the A19 turn to York (City Centre). Continue for 2 miles. Turn left onto St Peters Grove, opposite St Peters School. From Selby - via the A19 - Go into York and follow the inner ring road signs direction Thirsk A19. Continue round to the North side. When you reach the sign to Thirsk A19 pointing to the right, follow this road for 600 yards. Turn right onto St Peters Grove, opposite St Peters School. From York Railway Station - Turn left out of the station towards the Minster. Cross the River Ouse via Lendal Bridge. Turn left into Museum Street. At the A19 (Bootham) turn left. Continue for 600 meters. Turn right onto St Peters Grove, opposite St Peters School.
