And one of the great things about a visit to Washington, D.C. is that much of it can be done on a very limited budget, with free museums, concerts and sites. With so much to do and explore, you won't want to miss this exciting destination.
A trip to DC is incomplete without a visit to the big monuments, including the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and array of other tributes to great leaders and war veterans. Next stop is the National Mall, a patch of green grass that marks the cultural center of the city. Here you can go on a tour of the White House or sit in on a session of Congress. Along the mall, you will find a wide array of Smithsonian museums that are all free to the public. A little off of the mall, you can also explore Ford's Theater, site of Lincoln's assassination. In the evening, you'll want to stop by the Kennedy Center for a free concert every day of the year at 6pm.
Washington DC is a fun city to visit with something for everyone. For a little more of the Bohemian feel of this young city, check out Adam's Morgan and Dupont Circle. For family fun, you may want to head to the National Zoo, which costs nothing to visit and is located in the beautiful Rock Creek Park. Find out what's going on now at the DC cultural event website and look for all the upcoming festivals. Don't forget to plan a trip down in early spring to see the cherry blossoms.
