National Museum
The Central State Museum takes through Kazakhstan's history from bronze-age burial mounds to telecommunications and the transfer of the capital to Astana, with many beautiful artefacts. A large replica of the Golden Man stands in the entrance hall.
Kok-tobe mountain
Kok Tobe is a mountain on the south-eastern outskirts of Almaty. It is also the name of the popular recreation area on top of the mountain. Kok Tobe recreational area has an amusement park, restaurants, number of good viewpoints of the city.

Premiere Eurasian opera and classical music venue was built in 1934. Theatre was completely renovated in 2000. Repertoire includes dozens of different productions. Closes in July and August.
Panfilov Park
A popular park first laid out in the 1870s, later named for 28 soldiers of an Almaty infantry unit who died fighting off Nazi tanks in 1941. Has the most famous Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Kazakhstan, built in 1904 entirely of wood.
