Hotel Falster is situated in Nykoebing which is the main town on Falster and which was founded way back in the end of the 1100s in connection with the construction of the castle Nykoebing Slot. The castle served as a dower house for queens who were so to speak superfluous in Copenhagen. One of them was King Christian the 4ths mother who ruled over Lolland-Falster until she died in 1631. King Christian the 5ths wife Charlotte Amalie lived in Nykoebing Slot as a widow for 15 years and in 1716 the Russian Tsar Peter the Great visited the castle but he would rather dine at the local inn. 270 years after the Tsars visit to the town Nykoebing got its new hotel. Hotel Falster which right from the start has been family-run. This means that the guests should feel that they are welcome no matter whether they spend the night- eat or hold a meeting in the hotel.
