Both the centre of Waren Mueritz and the harbour feature lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. Guests will also find shopping streets and a large market square. The Mueritzeum opened in August 2007 and holds the largest fresh water aquarium in Germany. There are also beautiful museum gardens around the Herrensee Lake. Further interesting sights include the three-aisled St. Georgen basilica with its ribbed vault, St. Marien church dating back to late 13th century, the old town hall , a two-storey brick building with arcades dating back to the 15th century, the new town hall with bullet holes from the Kapp Putsch in 1920, the harbour with its historical warehouses, and the Weinbergschloss castle. Annual events include the Mueritz Duathlon, the Mueritz Triathlon, the Mueritz Swim, the Mueritz Run, the mountain bike race and the Radfest bike festival. More information about sights in the vicinity: Mueritz National Park: This national park comprises over one hundred lakes, including Lake Mueritz, all set amidst extensive forest. Objects similar to those found in primeval forests rule in the undisturbed beech, oak and pine forests that also play home to vast numbers of species of flora and fauna. 360 km of sign-posted hiking trails with numerous viewing points are available for those travelling on foot, by bike or by horse and carriage. Bollewick Barn: The largest stone barn in Germany now houses a market for products from Mecklenburg. Tradesmen, culture, shops and workshops are all on offer barn. The market has a diverse programme and attracts thousands of visitors. Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide National Park features 60 lakes, the Nebel and Mildenitz rivers and large forested areas. Numerous water birds including white-tailed eagles live in this region, as do otters. At the Plauer See Lake you will find old peat ditches which are gradually silting. Here nature lovers can observe the individual phases of the silting, from the open water to the quaking bogs to the bog forest, each with their own species of plants and animals. Outdoor wisent enclosure at Damerow: A unique attraction within the Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide National Park is the wisent enclosure on the Damerow Island, south of Jabel. Fritz Reuter literary museum in Stavenhagen: The Fritz Reuter literary museum is situated in the former town hall on the market square. Built in 1788, this building is where Reuter was born and it now houses the Fritz Reuter literary museum. In the 13 different rooms, visitors will find a large collection of manuscripts, drawings by the poet, and artefacts, as well as a library comprising Low German literature. Schliemann museum in Ankershagen: Heinrich Schliemann 1822-1890, the world-famous discoverer of Troy and the excavator of Mycenae, spent part of his childhood in Ankershagen in the county of MA1/4ritz. This museum details his life and the excavations of the greatest archaeologist. Hotel Schloss Ulrichshusen: You can experience history up close and personal in the summer concerts at Ulrichshusen, set amidst the untouched Mecklenburgischen Schweiz countryside. Musicians from all over the world have played in this old concert hall.

Have you been to Waren before? There is nowhere more beautiful to bathe, walk and enjoy the water than in Waren. Waren Mueritz is a climatic health resort on the north shore of the Mueritz the largest lake in Germany. Both the red roofs of the old town and the St. Georg and St. Marien churches greet boaters on their journey across the Mecklenburg lake district. Many of these lake-farers dock their boats at the local yachting harbour. The Mueritzs great water quality makes it a great place to bath and to enjoy water sports such as surfing, sailing and canoeing, The boat trips across the lake are extremely popular, as is the Tschu-Tschu-Bahn train tour of the town. Dont forget to visit the Mueritzeum, a natural museum featuring Germanys largest fresh water aquarium for local fish. Mueritz National Park surrounds the town and is the home to white-tailed eagles and osprey. It is an important attraction for many nature lovers and a worthwhile destination for cyclists and walkers, who will find lots of well sign-posted hiking paths in the Mueritz region.
