Hotel Tonderhus

Hotel Toenderhus has 60 rooms all of them with bath- hairdryer- trouser press- mini bar- radio- TV and wireless Internet. 5 mini suites- banqueting rooms and conference rooms with all facilities and audiovisual equipment for max. 200 persons. The town had its first hanseatic municipal law already in 1243 and it is thus the oldest market town in Denmark. Originally the town had its own harbour and direct access to the sea. When the dikes were built west of the town in the 1550s this connection was closed. In return the town and its guests may delight in the many beautiful and well-preserved gable houses from the 1600s and 1700s - a period when the town flourished because of the extensive lace industry. The hotel of the town is called Hotel Toenderhus and it has proud traditions as such. This also goes for the cuisine of the hotel where the motto is to offer wellness with a twinkle in the eye. For lunch you might try the South Jutland omelette with bacon- onions- potatoes- mustard- beetroots and rye bread or good Danish open sandwiches called smoerrebroed. The evening menu comprises e.g. halibut meuniere- ginger roasted duck breast and fillet of red deer. Hotel Toenderhus is situated only 5 km from the German border and is therefore a perfect starting point for those who wish to explore the interesting history of the legendary borderland. The rough nature with the fantastic flora and fauna of the marshland and the Wadden Sea is a unique experience - especially in the Sort Sol - Black Sun seasons when ten thousands of starlings settle down for the night.
