How to get:
There are three ways to travel to the Sunset Reef Marine Hotel. By plane - There are two companies that have schedule flights to Tambor - SANSA and NATUREAIR. The flight takes about 25 minutes. From the airstrip of Tambor, a taxi can be arranged to transfer you to Sunset Reef. The cost one way for a SANSA ticket is around USD 50.00 per person. The cost of the taxi from Tambor Airstrip to the hotel is USD 30.00. By car: From San Jose, take route 1 and go to Puntarenas. The Ferry Boat to Paquera is at the very end of the tip that forms the city, where you will find small signs. The ferry leaves at 0500AM, 0845AM, 1230PM, 0200PM, 0500PM and at 0815 PM. Be there at least 45 minutes before any departure, as during the high season, it gets very busy. Cost - 3,000 colones for car and driver; 405 colones for each additional passenger. At the other side of the Gulf of Nicoya, you will arrive just outside the town of Paquera. Follow the cars to the town named Paquera, and continue on to Tambor, then Cobano and finally to Mal Pais. Turn left, and the hotel is at the very end of the road. You will find signs along the road. By bus: From San Jose, take the Puntarenas bus - about 700 colones. It will take you approximately 2 1/2 hours. The bus will take you to a terminal that is a short taxi ride to the ferry landing in Puntarenas. Take the Ferry Boat to 'Paquera' - the cost per person is 405 colones. When you get to the other side, there are normally taxis available which you can take to Mal Pais - about USD 40.00. Often, there is a bus at the ferry terminal which you can ride all the way

Absolute Natural Reserve at Cabo Blanco has crystal clear streams all year round and teems with a breathtaking abundance of marine life, birds, flora and fauna. Sunset Reef offers, through Pacific Divers, a variety of exclusive diving expeditions with a licensed dive master or instructor. A five day diving workshop is available for PADI diving certification. Snorkeling expeditions with equipment provided by the lodge are also available. Anglers can fish for dorado, rooster fish, shark, marlin, and tuna with a local fishing guide abord our own fishing boat. Mal Pais is home to some of the largest and most consistent surf in Costa Rica* Oh, and don't forget to experience some warm water, ocean kayaking, right from our own beach. Guests can also enjoy walks along the beach, mountain bike rides in mal pais, and guided horseback excursions to the surrounding mountains. This adventure culminates with a picnic lunch near a dramatic 120 foot waterfall Or, just relax in our palm grove by the beach... or on the beach itself... or by our oceanside pool.
